PHYSICIAN ASSISTANT - GENERAL SURGERY - OUTPATIENT

POSITION LOCATION:  TRUMBULL OFFICE AND BRIDGEPORT HOSPITAL

The Physician Assistant in General Surgery manages a range of medical and surgical conditions and are involved in all aspects of patient care.  This position is predominantly in the outpatient setting and assists general surgeon in all aspects of the caring of breast and general surgical patients.

Responsibilities

 

  
Duties & Responsibilities
    • Performs patient histories and physical exams
    • Handles patient rounds, patient education and discharge summaries
    • First Assist in performing outpatient breast and general surgery including hernias, gallbladder and abdominal surgeries utilizing laproscopic and robotics
    • Has extensive knowledge of a wide range of pathophysiology and a complex variety of co-morbid conditions
    • Anticipates and corrects post-operative problems resulting from co-morbid conditions and stress of surgery
    • Enables continuity of care by managing patient care in pre-, intra- and post-operative settings
    • Coordinates/collaborates with clinical team to ensure development of appropriate treatment plans
    • Communicates with physicians as needed; consult other services when appropriate
    • Conducts patient and family education and documents education
    • Integrates ethical principles in all areas of practice

 

 

 

Qualifications

EDUCATION:

Graduation from an accredited Physician Associate program required. Certified as a Physician Associate by the

National Commission on Certification of Physician Associates. Both hold a valid Connecticut medical license ,

Connecticut Controlled Substance Registration and Federal Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA) Certification.

 

EXPERIENCE:

One (1) to two (2) years caring for patients in surgical setting preferred.

 

SPECIAL SKILLS:

Excellent clinical, interpersonal and organizational skills. Demonstrated stong communication skillls, enthusiasm with a strong interest in breast and general surgery.  Will train in laproscopic and robotics.

 

ACCOUNTABILITY:  Accountable to conduct accurate and appropriate evaluation, care, and coordination of care of patients.
