The Senior Development Officer for Planned Giving reports to the Director of Development and is responsible for leading the Hospital's Planned Giving Program, including the establishment and implementation of YNHH's Planned Giving strategic plans, policies, and goals.

This position requires the candidate to develop a caseload of 35-50 Planned Giving prospects and devise and execute strategies for qualifying, cultivating, soliciting and stewarding these prospects; coordinate Planned Giving activities by Development Officers, evaluating the effectiveness of all Planned Giving initiatives and activities across YNHH; mentor staff and provide training as required; develop strategies to aggressively market the Planned Giving program; and lead and steward the Jonathan Knight Society, the Hospital's Planned Giving society.

Responsibilities

  • 1. Identifies planned giving prospects from the Hospital's donor base as well as from independent identification, relationship building, and stewardship. Maintain a caseload of 35-50 planned giving prospects.Prepares individualized fund-raising presentations and proposals for the solicitation of Planned Giving prospects.
  • 2. Create a comprehensive Development Program to advance the priorities of the Hospital. Coordinate activities with the Senior Dev Officer of the Annual Fund/Communications, Development Officers, Manager,Development Services, and Gift Club Coordinator to realize the full philanthropic potential of the Planned Giving program. Work consistently to help fund the Hospital's programs and funding needs.
  • 3. Personally cultivates and solicits individual prospects for Hospital priority needs, including capital campaigns, endowment, as well as clinical and programmatic priorities.
  • 4. Develops, writes, prepares and disseminates donor correspondence, and writes and/or assists in the design, production, and distribution of letters, solicitation proposals, web pages, case statements and other fundraising materials as appropriate. Works with external vendors on the production of Planned Giving newsletters, educational materials as well as information for the Planned giving website. On a monthly basis, tracks the value of the gift annuity pool, which is invested externally, and prepares a report for accounting and Development management.
  • 5. Maintain an effective stewardship program by touching each Knight Society member at least once a year using a combination of personal visits, phone calls, and hand written notes.
  • 6. Coordinates with Special Events in the planning of Development events targeted to Knight Society members and prospects for the purpose of identification, relationship building, and stewardship.
  • 7. Create and nurture good relationships with volunteers, including Trustees, medical staff, business and community leaders, professional advisors, and other interested parties.
  • 8. Performs other miscellaneous job duties as required.

Qualifications

EDUCATION


Bachelors Degree required; advanced degree and appropriate certification desired


EXPERIENCE


At least five years of successful and direct experience in advancement in a hospital, university or other non- profit setting; Hospital experience preferred.


SPECIAL SKILLS


Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Ability to work well with a wide variety of people, including volunteers, medical staff, prospects and their professional advisors. Excellent skills in Microsoft Word and Excel required. Knowledge of Raiser's Edge preferred. Working knowledge of the various Planned Giving vehicles and software such as Planned Giving Manager and Gift Wrap.
Familiarity with tax laws as they relate to Planned Giving. Ability to maintain confidentiality of records/information; gather data, compile information and prepare reports. Must be entrepreneurial, results-oriented, and a strategic thinker. Demonstrated high level of integrity and compassion. Shows initiative in seeing what needs to be done and exhibits resourcefulness in adapting to sudden change. Demonstrated ability to set and mange multiple priorities, tasks, and programs. Positive and dynamic personality, able to motivate and interact with all levels of clinical professionals. Enthusiastic and dedicated to the mission and the principles of the Hospital.


PHYSICAL DEMAND


Occasional weekend and after business hours required; a valid drivers license as light travel mainly using personal vehicle is required.
