Under the supervision of the Laboratory Manager of Specimen Processing and Reference, performs a wide range of technical, administrative, and supervisory duties to ensure the efficient running of the Reference Section within the Central Processing Department. Provides daily oversight of the Reference Laboratory Associates working within the Reference section and ensures timely and accurate processing of all specimens to be sent to referral laboratories, which includes: packaging, shipping of specimens; data entry, scanning and faxing; and acting as a resource person for physicians and other health care personnel who have questions regarding reference tests, specimen requirements, results, etc. Daily oversight may include such tasks as staff scheduling, monitoring of work flow, monitoring of quality, inventory control, error management, and problem solving. Using various data analysis tools, monitors test utilization, appropriateness of test orders, selection of referral laboratory including price comparisons, and evaluation of bringing tests in-house.
Bachelor of Science in Medical Technology, ASCP certification, eligibility or equivalent.
Two (2) to three (3) years clinical laboratory experience as a medical technologist.
Basic management skills as well as excellent interpersonal and group leadership skills. Ability to instruct and coordinate the activities of assigned staff.
