Participates in the timely and accurate processing, performing and reporting of patient specimens and test information. Reports to the Coordinator problems that occur in the processing area or technical area.

Responsibilities

  • 1. Familiar with the specimen processing system to ensure the timely and accurate processing of patient samples critical to patient care.
    • 1.1 Assesses the specimen according to established procedural criteria, documents any specimen problems, and requests new specimen(s) when unacceptable. Provides accurate documentation of such with no more than three (3) documented incidents of misassessment.
  • 2. Demonstrates technical competency in performing designated routine tests to ensure that accurate data can be provided for good patient care.
    • 2.1 Is technically proficient in the performance of and basic interpretation of laboratory testing.
  • 3. Provides for the accurate reporting of lab results to ensure continuity of patient care by demonstrating computer, communication, and documentation skills.
    • 3.1 Records results clearly, legibly and accurately, as soon as test is completed, including CAPNOCHG and documents and initials all patient results onto corresponding worklist. Incurs no more than three (3) documented incidents of CAPNOCHG entries.
  • 4. Fosters mature, respectful, relationships with fellow employees, patients, and staff to ensure a professional environment and approach to all work areas.
    • 4.1 Accurately records on in Kronos book all necessary work related activities. Overtime is always completed and initialed according to departmental policy.
  • 5. Demonstrates an understanding of selected technical procedures, techniques, protocols, and instrumentation, such that one can recognize problems and engage in basic troubleshooting and problem solving.
    • 5.1 Recognizes problems related to inappropriate outcome of procedures, notifies a supervisor of the existence of such a problem.
  • 6. Knowledgeable in the Soft, Polytech and LabDAQ LIS systems and appropriate application to generate lab results.

Qualifications

EDUCATION

 

Associate's Degree in Medical Laboratory Technology or equivalent educational background. Associate's Degree in Biology. MLT (ASCP) or ASMT certification or equivalent.

 

EXPERIENCE

 

One (1) to two (2) years of experience in an accredited Clinical I Laboratory or one (1) to two (2) years experience in a related Clinical laboratory depending on the responsibilities previously held.

 

SPECIAL SKILLS

 

Can process and prepare patient samples for laboratory testing. Can perform a variety of selected routine tests. Can access the laboratory's quality control system. Can do routine problem solving., Working knowledge of equipment, instrumentation and materials used in a Clinical laboratory.
