Under the direction of the Director of Oncology Pharmacy, the IDS Pharmacy Manager will direct and organize programs, activities and supportive personnel in the Pharmacy Investigational Drug Service Line. The manager performs responsibilities that enhance the reputation and service orientation of the Pharmacy Department including coordination, collaboration, and the provision of expertise in support of clinical investigational drug trials.



  • 1. 1.00 Performs Management and Administrative Responsibilities
  • 2. 1.01 Maintains overall responsibility for pharmacy related investigational drug pharmacy services
  • 3. 1.02 Acts as the main pharmacy liaison for Yale University research related administrative staff, principle investigators, research nurses, support staff and others
  • 4. 1.03 Attends and contributes to interdisciplinary committees relating to clinical investigational drug trials
  • 5. 1.04 Monitors pharmacy activities to ensure adherence to all federal, state and regulatory standards including but not limited to proper inventory record maintenance, dispensing activities, storage and waste management
  • 6. 1.05 Provides timely and accurate billing as required to support the clinical investigational drug trials
  • 7. 1.06 Leads in the development and maintenance of software programs designed to facilitate management of clinical investigational drug trials
  • 8. 1.07 Maintains and documents workload measurement statistics; provides other data as required
  • 9. 1.08 Completes RL reporting including incidents, adverse drug reaction reports etc.
  • 10. 1.09 Collaborates in the identification and development of revenue generating opportunities
  • 11. 1.10 Provides direct supervision of all pharmacy related investigational drug programs
  • 12. 1.11 Supervises and provides direction to IDS pharmacists and IDS technicians and support staff
  • 13. 1.12 Delegates work assignments as required
  • 14. 1.13 Provides technical and procedural guidance
  • 15. 1.14 Completes performance appraisals of IDS staff
  • 16. 2.00 Maintains responsibility for clinical investigational drug trials
  • 17. 2.01 Reviews protocols for Yale University YCCI and CTO as required in a timely fashion
  • 18. 2.02 Interacts with principle investigators and coordinators to establish appropriate budgets and to determine pharmacy's role to implement dispensing, compounding, and billing procedures
  • 19. 2.03 Communicates with pharmacy IDS staff regarding pharmacy participation in the clinical investigational trial
  • 20. 2.04 Maintains appropriate pharmacy documentation including study summary, protocol, dispensing procedures, completed samples of required paperwork, dispensing checklist, fee schedule, billing procedures and any other relevant materials for each investigational drug trial
  • 21. 2.05 Maintains and coordinates distribution of an up to date clinical study list as requested
  • 22. 2.06 Maintains responsibility for the management of the inventory for all studies
  • 23. 2.07 Communicates any concerns regarding ethical issues or deviation from established policies and procedures to the research ethics committee
  • 24. 2.08 Assists in ensuring the participation of the pharmacy department in all clinical trials that involve drugs
  • 25. 3.00 Performs educational activities
  • 26. 3.01 Maintains and determines appropriate professional development for IDS staff
  • 27. 3.02 Provides orientation as required to clinical investigational trials
  • 28. 3.03 Promotes professional development, assures that IDS participates as an active member on committees, attends and/or presents at educational rounds, journal club
  • 29. 4.00Provides accurate and efficient dispensing of medication
  • 30. 4.01 Ensures adherence to study protocols and dispensing procedures
  • 31. 4.02 Meets with sponsor drug monitors as required
  • 32. 5.00 Communication responsibilities
  • 33. 5.01 Facilitates communication between Department of Pharmacy, principle investigators, clinical trail coordinators, research nurses, and trial sponsors
  • 34. 5.02 Consults with other pharmacy personnel as required
  • 35. 5.03 Effectively communicates with colleagues and allied health professionals
  • 36. 5.04 Interacts with external agencies and external organizations as required
  • 37. 6.00 Performs other duties consistent with job classification as required



Graduate of an accredited College of Pharmacy. Advanced degree (M.S. or Pharm.D.) and/or completion of a
residency in hospital pharmacy from a program accredited by the American Society of Health -System Pharmacists
is strongly preferred.


Three-five (3-5) years experience in a hospital pharmacy setting with strong working knowledge of the compliance
and regulatory issues relative to hospital pharmacy practice, management and oncology experience preferred.


CT Pharmacist Licensure Eligibility


Six Sigma or other quality improvement certification or training preferred. Strong project management and problem solving skills desired. Strong interpersonal skill and the ability to coordinate work between diverse groups are essential .Knowledge of automation technologies pertinent to medication use is strongly preferred.
