JOB SUMMARY

Under the supervision of the charge nurse/manager, and as a member of the multidisciplinary health care team, performs all duties that support patient care to infants, children and their families. These duties include direct and indirect patient care activities which are essential to providing comprehensive care to patients across the continuum of healthcare and can be delivered in diverse settings such as Ambulatory/Out-patient clinics, home, and community environment. Must demonstrate the ability and sensitivity to provide care to all ages, and developmental stages and teh ability to individualize care as needed.

Responsibilities

  • 1. Under the direction of the Registered Nurse, Physician/LIP or Nursing Manager, engages in selected tasks and activities as directed to obtain and report patient and family information to assist the nurse or provider in the assessment, planning, and evaluation of patient needs, treatment, plans of care, and response to treatments, or plans of care.
    • 1.1 Introduces self to patient, family, and caregivers , including explanation of role, and what to expect during the outpatient visits. Includes introduction of the healthcare team of specialists. In addition, communicates with sensitivity to the child's developmental or emotional needs as well as those of the parent/caregiver.
  • 2. Under the direction of the clinical nurse and/or the physician/LIP, performs technical duties and selected treatments, procedures, or activities within the scope of a medical assistant to contribute to a safe, high quality, and efficient delivery of patient care.
    • 2.1 Understands and applies principles of universal precautions at all times: Including a focus on hand hygiene, and following isolation practice standards for YNHH Ambulatory services clinics
  • 3. Functions as a member of the multi-disciplinary team to support the caregivers in providing care to the pediatric patient, family, caregivers and populations.
    • 3.1 Collaborates consistently with members of the multi-disciplinary team offering suggestions on addressing patient and family needs, including any developmental, cognitive, socio-economic, or cultural needs that are identified and brought forward in the best interest of supporting the plan of care.
  • 4. Provides environmental support to the clinic/outpatient service to ensure efficient and safe operations to meet regulatory compliance
    • 4.1 Ensures exam rooms and procedure rooms are cleaned and stocked as per par levels, including adequate volume and functioning of equipment within each room
  • 5. Maintains clinical competency in areas of responsibility and participates in unit activities that promote a cohesive staff
    • 5.1 Attend and complete all mandatory continuing education classes for YNHH, regulatory requirements, and any specialty certifications

Qualifications

EDUCATION

 

A minimum of a high school diploma or GED, and CNA or other educational equivalent. medical assistant training and certification preferred. YNHH PCA training/certificate is acceptable.

 

EXPERIENCE

 

At least 3 years experience in a healthcare environment with proven employment record. Pediatric experience preferred.

 

LICENSURE

 

Medical assistant, Technician, or Patient Care Associate certification.

 

SPECIAL SKILLS

 

Demonstrate the ability to communicate effectively with patient, families , peers, and supervisor,. Must demonstrate flexibility in adjusting priorities and workplans based on the needs of the patients and the patient care team. Must demonstrate role model behaviors relative to clinical and technical practice.

 

PHYSICAL DEMAND

 

Able to lift a minimum of 40 pounds, . Ability to perform tasks of physical endurance and dexterity as required by placement. Consistent use of proper body mechanics
